VT Training Apprentice Recruitment Programme

VT Training form part of the VT Group Ltd and approached elemense to provide a solution for managing their 2009 Apprenticeship Programmes. VT Training required 45 suitably screened and tested candidates to enrol into their client, BAE Systems Surface Ships, programme during September 2009.

The Recruitment Programme

With elemense depth of experience of delivering scalable managed recruitment solutions, the following programme was agreed;

  • Managing the candidate advertising response received from BAE Systems Surface Ships website.
  • For candidates who do not have access to a PC taking the telephone ad response and posting out application forms.
  • For candidates who do not have access to a PC taking the telephone ad response and posting out application forms.
  • All application forms to be returned to the elemense Project Team for collating into pre-defined criteria easily readable for BAE Systems Surface Ships / VT Training to decide on candidate’s suitability for each programme.
  • BAE Systems Surface Ships / VT Training provide their short list to the elemense Project Team to carry out competency based telephone interviews to assist in ensuring the candidates are considered for the right programme.
  • Candidates to then be invited to the Portsmouth Dockyard to take a tour, a brief presentation by the BAE Systems Surface Ships Senior Manager and complete a selection of SHL ability tests. This assessment day was arranged and managed by the elemense Project Team who are suitably qualified to administer SHL tests.
  • The elemense Project team compiled composite scores and test data into a scoring matrix, allowing 145 candidates to be chosen and allocated to the BAE Systems Surface Ships and VT Training programmes.
  • All applicant’s were finally contacted to advise on the outcome of their application, elemense in partnership with VTsuccessfu7lly appointed 45 Apprentices were appointed to BAE System Surface Ships.

The programme attracted a steady response from candidates either looking to start a career after finishing full time education or experienced candidates looking to gain new and/or additional skills. They were managed by a knowledgeable elemense Project Team who were able to act on behalf of VT Training / BAE Systems Surface Ships. A key advantage of having this dedicated team meant a professional programme was delivered and candidates received a consistent line of communication. Ultimately a lasting first impression was made keeping candidates enthused in entering the Apprenticeship Programme.
